Il Lupo is a delightful Italian restaurant in the heart of the Derbyshire dales. It is run by a family from the Puglia region of Italy and prides itself on providing authentic Italian cuisine. The recipes use traditional ingredients and locally sourced items wherever possible.
The lunchtime menu is a bargain at only £8.95 for 3 courses. There is a limited menu but enough to make a good choice from. However, for the dessert there is no choice which perturbed me at first as this is my favourite course. However, I need not have worried as we were served with a small portion of the most delicious apple cake that I’d ever tasted so I had no reason to complain.
The decor is cosy with bare brick interior walls reminiscent of being in a wine cellar. When we visited it was filled with paraphernalia decorating the walls but looking at their website I think they may have had a refurbishment.
Baslow is wonderfully placed for exploring the magnificent Derbyshire countryside. In fact you may like me have only ever seen the place from the outside whilst you’ve been dressed in walking gear with muddy boots on and thought that you must go there sometime when more appropriately dressed. Well do so and you will not be disappointed.
